Quiet Confidence: A Smarter Path to Retirement
Chris Broome – Chartered Financial Planner
At Longhurst, July marks the start of something we’ve been quietly working on for a while.
It’s something we’ve created in response to a group of people we hold in very high regard: women in their 50s who have built successful lives, often with significant wealth, but who don’t always want to shout about it. They don’t crave the spotlight. They want control, clarity, and confidence, on their terms.
We’ve come to know these women well. Many are business owners, professionals, or long-time stewards of family wealth. What they have in common isn’t just financial capability, it’s intentionality. They ask thoughtful questions. They value discretion. And they want to make smart decisions about retirement without having to broadcast every move.
July’s focus is built around serving these women better. Not by telling them what to do, but by offering a space to reflect, to plan, and to prepare, quietly, and with strength.
We call this approach “Quiet Confidence.” It’s about equipping women to transition into retirement on their own terms, thoughtfully, strategically, and with calm assurance.
What does that mean in practice?
It means focusing on the details that matter most, like protecting wealth from unnecessary tax drag, structuring retirement income in a way that supports the life you want, and surrounding yourself with a circle of professionals who understand that privacy isn’t a luxury, it’s a requirement.
It means recognising that many women reach this point in life with a deep sense of purpose, but not always a clear financial roadmap to match. They’re not looking for hype. They’re looking for insight.
It also means giving space to legacy, not just in financial terms, but in human ones. What will your wealth make possible? Who do you want it to benefit? And how do you want to be remembered?
We’re not here to impose answers. We’re here to help uncover them, with curiosity, care, and respect.
Throughout July, we’ll be sharing articles, insights, and prompts to help you pause and consider your own path forward. If you see yourself in any of this, we hope you’ll follow along. You won’t find shouty sales messages or dramatic predictions. Just thoughtful guidance, built around the reality of your life, not someone else’s idea of success.
Next steps
For those who want to take the next step, we’re here to have a conversation.
The truth is, some of the smartest financial moves aren’t the loudest. They happen behind the scenes, grounded in values and carried out with precision. That’s what Quiet Confidence looks like.
Thank you for reading. And to the women this message is meant for, you may not always ask for the spotlight, but you certainly deserve our full attention.
