Charity Focus – More Trees by THG Eco

In January 2023, we launched our firm’s first ever corporate charitable giving programme, called ‘Project Longhurst’.
Project Longhurst enables us to direct our financial and non-monetary contributions to organisations involved in humanitarian, animal welfare, environmental and financial education causes.
We will be sharing more information about each of our chosen charities over the coming months, highlighting the amazing and courageous work each is doing to help those most in need.
Today’s article introduces our Environmental partner, More Trees by THG Eco, and the brilliant work they do.
About
Carbon dioxide is one of the biggest drivers of climate change, and we all know we should be playing our part in reducing and negating carbon emissions.
Tree planting not only helps offset your emissions, but it comes with tonnes of other benefits too.
As such, in 2020 Longhurst became a Certified Partner to More Trees, an organisation set up to empower both individuals and businesses to offset their carbon footprint.
What does it mean for our clients?
BRAND NEW CLIENTS:
If you become a new financial planning client of Longhurst, once you have fully onboarded, we will plant 10 trees on your behalf, then send you a cool certificate confirming it!
CLIENT BIRTHDAYS:
For our overseas connections, and where we can’t send you chocolate brownies (which our UK clients receive), we will instead plant 10 trees on your behalf, then send you a cool certificate confirming it!
RANDOM GIFTS:
From time to time we love to send our clients random gifts – whether that be a ‘Thinking of you’ postcard, or some flowers. We will now also be planting trees on your behalf!
What are the benefits?
HELP THE PLANET:
Every tree planted absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, offsetting your carbon. It also releases oxygen, filters the air, filters rainfall and increases atmospheric moisture.
REDUCE EXTREME POVERTY:
More Tree’s partner projects provide fair wage employment to impoverished villages and communities across the world. This gives people a wage to feed their families and communities an income to support local trade.
COMBAT DEFORESTATION:
The more trees planted, the more healthy forests that begin to re-emerge – restoring animal habitats, purifying water sources, replenishing soil and controlling flooding and erosion.
SHOW YOU CARE:
80% of consumers want businesses to help them make a difference. Tree planting shows everyone you care about your impact on the environment and you’re doing your part to help.
How More Trees do it
They partner with regulated non-profit NGOs (non-government organisations) who work with local communities to restore healthy forests and reduce extreme poverty across the world.
They hire and train villagers to plant trees, giving them a consistent income to provide for their families and support the local economy.
Each tree planted absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while also overcoming the negative effects of deforestation on animal populations and the environment.
The more trees you plant, the more you help.
Next Steps
For the 2022/23 tax year we have already donated in excess of £10,000 across all our chosen causes.
Each tax year thereafter we plan to commit a minimum of the same amount again, with a hope to double it before the end of 2023/24.
