Project Longhurst: Happy 30th birthday The Money Charity!
Chris Broome – Chartered Financial Planner
We promised to bring you regular updates on our corporate charitable giving programme, ‘Project Longhurst’, which aims to support organisations involved in humanitarian, animal welfare, environmental and financial education causes.
Here’s an update from our Financial Education partner, The Money Charity, celebrating their 30th birthday and also passing the incredible milestone of 300,000 young people reached by their Financial Education Money Workshops since 2010!
It’s a very Happy Birthday to The Money Charity as this week (w/c 1st July) sees us marking 30 years as the UK’s dedicated Financial Wellbeing and Financial Education charity. There’s extra cause to celebrate too, having recently passed the incredible milestone of 300,000 young people reached by our Financial Education Money Workshops since 2010p!
Established in 1994, The Money Charity was originally known as Credit Action. The charity was founded by Keith Tondeur OBE as a more local organisation, set up to assist those in problem debt.
But as the years passed, he realised there was a major missing gap in the UK’s provision of financial support, namely ensuring more people are equipped and empowered to never get into financial difficulties, prevention rather than cure.
At this point, he began to move the charity into the more proactive areas of Financial Education and Financial Wellbeing, providing thought leadership in these developing spaces, with us becoming The Money Charity in October 2013.
Ever since, The Money Charity team has worked committedly at seeing the UK increase its Financial Wellbeing and advocating for more and better Financial Education for people of all ages and at all stages of life.
Today, The Money Charity stands having reached over 300,000 young people with delivery of our Financial Education Money Workshops, the equivalent of about 57 young people every day since 2010!
Meanwhile our delivery of Financial Wellbeing Workshops and Webinars to adults through workplaces and community groups, while less established than our work with young people, has seen us reach over 25,000 adults with engaging, equipping sessions to help them manage their money well.
We will be marking these amazing milestones with a celebration event, alongside past and present staff members and trustees, Workshop Consultants, funding partners and friends of the charity, as well as online through our website and social media channels.
As I often tell people, it’s an exciting time to be involved with The Money Charity! Last year, we delivered our Workshops and Webinars to more people than ever before, a record 43,000+.
Awareness of the value and importance of what we offer is only growing and, even though our field is getting more crowded with competitors, in my view none of them can compete with our impartial and independent ethos, nor our depth of expertise, experience, and credibility and passion.
So why not find out more or get involved? Maybe you work with an organisation for whom our vision and mission resonates and you want to explore a funding partnership. Maybe your school, college, uni, workplace or charity/community organisation, or one you know, really should find out about the sessions we offer. Or maybe you just want to dig into our resources or hear more from us.
Whatever it is, as we always say, let’s start a conversation. We’re a dedicated, passionate and effective team, small in size but big in impact, and we’d love to hear from you!
