July 1961.

The Green Bay Packers American football team arrived for the first day of training camp. The previous season had ended with a devastating defeat losing the NFL Championship to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The players had spent the entire off-season thinking about their loss and were now eager to get to work developing their game – making sure they won the forthcoming season.

Their coach, the now world-famous Vince Lombardi, had a different idea.

Wanting to take his players back to basics, he raised his hand and said, ”Gentlemen, this is a football’.

His methodical approach to practicing the fundamentals continued throughout training camp.

Each player would review how to block and tackle.

They would re-learn the playbook from start to finish.

They would obsess over the basics.

How to gain 1 yard at a time, until they reached the touch-down area.

6 months later they would win the NFL Championship by beating the New York Giants by 37-0.

His world class team would become the best in the league at the tasks everyone else took for granted.
